Questions on registration

Directly after your registration you will automatically be logged in to the member area and get access to the usenet.nl software.

After only 3 simple steps (Download software – install – log in) you can start using usenet.nl!

You will also receive an e-mail with the subject “Your usenet.nl access details” from us for your records.
During the registration process you will receive an automatic call in which you will be given a 4-digit code. You enter this code into the relevant form on our homepage and finish the registration.
During the trial period you can change to a regular plan at any time. As you will already have given your bank details upon registration, we can provide you with the newly ordered download volume without any delays and you will be able to continue with your downloads without any interruptions.

We guarantee, of course, that your details will be handled confidentially and will not be used without your permission.
In order to protect your details effectively they are transmitted via SSL-encoding, which is also commonly used for online banking.
There are several payment methods you can choose from:
- Worldwide: PayPal, Credit Card
- Germany, Netherlands: PayPal, Credit Card, Direct Debit
You can change your monthly "Compact" subscription into an annual "Relax" subscription after one month. You can change your annual "Relax" subscription into a monthly "Compact" subscription 30 days before the yearly expiration date. Subscriptions can be transformed in the user area under "My account" > "My subscription". Please remember that changes are applied immediately.

After the registration it can take up to 10 minutes until your account is activated. If you are still not be able to download after this time frame, please follow the solutions from the error message or contact our support team.
Please check if the payment has already been completed: Log in to your PayPal account and check the status of your payment. Should this say "Pending", please contact PayPal.
If the payment status is a different one, our Customer Care will be glad to help. You can contact us via our support form or hotline.
If you did not receive a callback you can request the security code anew. All necessary information can be found in the email that you have received from us. If the second attempt fails or if you have not received an email please contact our support team. *Please note that the regional code for San Marino can be different according to the country you are calling from.

General information

You have to be at least 18 years in order to sign up for a usenet.nl account.
No, the account is only supposed to be used by you. You should keep your access information safe at all times and should not give it to third parties.
Subsequent to your free usenet.nl trial plan you will automatically be provided with 35GB each month for 12 months. Alternatively, you can already choose from the following running periods while you are still testing usenet.nl or at any given point in the member area under "My account" - "My subscription":

- 1 month for 11,99 €
- 12 months for 8,33 €/month (you save 30% compared to the monthly plan)

Hereby only the individually available options for you will automatically be given.
Yes.
The service of usenet.nl is to provide you with access to the Usenet. This service is called “Access Providing” and is comparable to the service of your Internet provider.

Difficulties with your account

Please check if the payment has already been completed: Log in to your PayPal account and check the status of your payment. Should this say "Pending", please contact PayPal.
If the payment status is a different one, our Customer Care will be glad to help. You can contact us via our support form or hotline.
Your contract will be reactivated as soon as possible, generally within 7 days.

You can check whether all invoices have actually been paid for by logging into the member area and clicking on "Invoices". If any outstanding amount shows up, simply contact our friendly service team either call our Support Hotline or use our Online Support Form. We will help you to process for your payment, so you can access your download volume shortly.
To edit your contact information (for example, your e-mail address or postal address), enter your account on usenet.nl or click “MEMBER LOGIN” in the software; at this point you can edit your data in “My account” -- "My data".

Questions regarding payment

There are several payment methods you can choose from:
- Worldwide: PayPal, Credit Card
- Germany, Netherlands: PayPal, Credit Card, Direct Debit
When you click on "My account" - "My invoices" in your member area, you can see which amount is still outstanding. Please click on the link we have sent you in the reminder to pay the invoice which has not been settled yet.

If you have any questions regarding the invoice, please get in touch with our accounting department. You will find the contact information in the reminder.

As soon as we have received your payment, your account will of course be reactivated as soon as possible.
Simply change to our monthly plan: Go to the member area, click on "My account" - "My subscription" and choose the desired running period.
Please note that we are not able to offer you the same benefits with a monthly plan as you would have with a long-term plan.

Questions on download volume

In order to purchase more download volume please log in to your member area and click on "My account > My subsription". In the next step, you can select your desired package if you are currently subscribed to a package with a duration of up to one month.

If you are making use of a plan with a running period of several months, you have the advantage to prepone the next months download volume.

Example: If your contract was completed on the 1st of the month, but you realize by the middle of the month that you need additional high speed data volume, you may easily draw data from the next month. You can repeat this process as many times as you wish until your entire data volume from the last month of the contract has been drawn. This will not change the terms of your package.

Once you have drawn the entire data volume from the last month of your contract, you can extend your contract under the above menu item or order another package. The term of the new package shall commence immediately.

You can check your remaining download volume in the following two places:

- Displayed in real-time: in the middle of the software under "Download"
- Displayed after refreshing the website: on the left of your member area.

Finish subscription

During the usenet.nl trial period the contract can be cancelled at any time.

If you have a regular plan, you must finish at least seven days before the next subscription renewal.
You can choose between the following options:
- Via phone
- Via mail
- Simply use our online support form

During your free trial, your subscription can be finished anytime. If you have a regular plan, you must finish it at least seven days before the next subscription renewal.
If you cancelled your subscription, you can easily acitivate your account. Please contact our support hotline for the reactivation. If your subscription expired, however, and you wish to use usenet.nl you need to sign up again.

Installation

Please try the following options:
- de-activate security software (anti-virus-programmes, firewall) before starting the installation
- uninstall all existing versions of Microsoft .NET framework
- re-install Microsoft .NET framework (you can find the latest 32- and 64-bit versions at www.microsoft.com)
- install the usenet.nl software into a different directory

If you still have problems, please contact our Customer Care and tell us whether you have tried the abovementioned steps. Please also provide us with information on your operating system and security software you are using.
Please note that after your order it can take up to 10 minutes until your account is activated.

If the log in still is not possible after that time frame, please make sure that you have paid attention to lower and upper case letters. Please copy and paste the details from the e-mail "Your access details for usenet.nl" into the software (menu item "Settings").

Should you still not be able to log in, please contact us. To ensure a fast and adequate solution, please attach the text of the received error message to your inquiry.
Is your interent connection active and running? Please check whether you can open websites.
Does your firewall or your security software block the ports 119 and 443? Please unlock both ports. You can find help on how to perform these actions by consulting the help file of the corresponding software.
You can use our service with any newsreader. In order to configure any newsreader please use depending on the desired download speed the following settings:

PowerMode (maximum download speed):

  • Newsserver: power.usenet.nl
  • Port: 119/443 for unencrypted connections or port 563 for SSL connections
  • Your user name (unf-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx)
  • Your password

EcoMode (with up to 2,000 kbit/s):

  • Newsserver: eco.usenet.nl
  • Port: 119/443 for unencrypted connections or port 563 for SSL connections

Difficulties when using the software

Yes, you can - this is done automatically when using the Filemaster.

You can repair corrupt .rar-, .rar.part0x- and .r0x-files by simply double-clicking on one of the downloaded files in the software if you have downloaded the corresponding .par2-files. Simply double-click on one of the .par2-files to start the automatic repair process.
This may occur while running several different applications simultaneously. You may also have other active downloads running.

The following options will help you narrowing down the problem.
- Did you activate EcoMode? If yes, please click on "Download" to resume downloads at maximum speed.
- Do you have many different programmes running that require access to the internet? Please close such programmes to check whether your download speed will increase.
- Do you also notice slow downloads from other websites? Please check your internet access. You may need to contact your ISP.

If you still cannot log in, please contact our friendly Customer Care in writing or over the phone.
This can occur if downloads are not entirely available in EcoMode.

You can switch off this option in the usenet.nl software under "Settings" --> "Miscellaneous". Please uncheck the option "Automatically switch to PowerMode if a file cannot be downloaded in EcoMode".

Search and download

Yes, downloads can be made via SSL encoding. In order to activate this, please go to the "Settings" of your software. Then tick the box "Use SSL encryption for downloading" under "Download".
If you subscribe to newsgroups, you define where your search commands are executed - this gives you the option of excluding certain parts of the Usenet which you do not want to be searched. This increases the quality of your results.
Subscribing to newsgroups does neither imply any additional charges nor does it use download volume.

With usenet.nl, you can decide at any time whether you want to download with PowerMode or EcoMode. Depending on the desired download speed, the following settings must be stored in the client:

PowerMode (maximum download speed):

  • Newsserver: power.usenet.nl
  • Port: 119/443 for unencrypted connections or port 569 for SSL connections
  • Your user name (unf-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx)
  • Your password

If you use the usenet.nl client, you have to click on the "speedometer" symbol on the right to switch from PowerMode to EcoMode.

Further information

When using the search-function, you do not search the entire Usenet but an index. This greatly increases search request performance - searching through more than 800 terabytes of data only takes a split second. Under very rare circumstances, a specific file may not be available. Please perform another search at a later stage.
.rar-files are larger files that are divided into several smaller files – so-called "archives". If you start a download with the Filemaster it will automatically download all necessary files, unpack them and put them together.
If you have already downloaded .rar-, .rar.part01- or r01-files simply click on “Files” and double click one of the .rar-, .rar.part01- or r01-files, which you can see in this folder. The software will then unpack all the files and put them together.
Yes. If .PAR2-files exist within already downloaded files, you can reconstruct incomplete rar-archives with those through double clicking the .PAR2-files. Our software will then try to repair the affected file.
You can download at unlimited speed in PowerMode. You can download up to 2,000 Kbit/s in EcoMode.
In usenet.nl software, click on the “speedometer” symbol on the right, next to the search bar.
Usenet.nl software is available for Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Mac (10.x or higher).

Can I use the usenet.nl software with Linux?
No. But you may use every other newsreader.
Usenet.nl software is available in German, English and French.
